    • Talkster takes advantage of the Skype VOIP service, enabling a free connect between any Skype user and a cell phone. Talkster can also be used to connect two cell phones or POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service). The "cost" of a free phone call is a ten second advertisment at the beginning of the call.

As many ACN reps know, the issue of Skype always comes up. So does Vonage. The ACN response is that there is no comparison between the quality of connectivity and quality of video available with Iris. ACN owns the underlying optical fiber that Iris video and voice IP (digital) signals a transported over. Skype and Vonage transport over the public Internet, where a mesh of ever changing router points, with each point hosting, resolving or re routing competing digital signal blocks, mucks the transmission quality.

In particular, Skype uses P2P transmission - which essentially turns every Skype user machine into a Skype network router. While this is a very innovative and efficient use of public Internet resources, any signal communicated across such a loose network is only as good as it's weakest link - which is sadly everywhere and anywhere. - post by garyedwards
