- Researchers working on tissue engineering hope to eventually be able to use a patient's own cells to grow replacement tissue for damaged hearts, livers, and nerves. But mimicking the structure and function of the body's tissue has proved difficult. Matrices of supportive, fibrous proteins sustain the cells of the heart, lungs, and other tissues in the body. These scaffolds provide both structural support and chemical signals that enable an organ or nerve tissue to function properly.

- David Karger helps lead a group at MIT exploring the way people work with computers. A recent paper from his team chronicled the attraction of "information scraps" like Post-Its, which, says Karger, are actually near-perfect data base tools. They're accessible and easy to use, and they take advantage of the brain's facility to remember an object's location in the three-dimensional world.

- 幸存的犹太人后来被英国当局迁往别处，希伯伦犹太社区传承了一千多年的产业则被当地阿拉伯人悉数侵占，直到1967年六日战争之后犹太定居者返回希伯伦，才讨回了一部分产业。当今天不明真相的人们把犹太定居者描绘为“侵略者”时，他们根本不知道希伯伦的很多产业是八十年前阿拉伯人在一场大屠杀后从犹太人手中抢走的。
- 首先是巴勒斯坦的暴民政治传统问题。我在《六十年后回首以巴冲突第一天》一文中就已经谈到了这个问题。实际上，在希伯伦大屠杀事件中，这个问题表现得更为突出。巴勒斯坦不是不存在理性的人群，那些事先向拉比斯洛宁做出承诺的阿拉伯贵族，那些在暴乱中保护了犹太邻居的阿拉伯家庭，他们确实是有理性的。糟糕的是，在巴勒斯坦人中，这种理性永远不是暴民的对手，巴勒斯坦人的命运似乎永远是在被暴民们牵着鼻子走。直到今天，由于暴民政治的特点，巴勒斯坦仍然建不成一个有足够权威的统治机构，而哈马斯这样依靠暴民政治上台的恐怖组织只能继续自己的暴民行为，甚至不惜为此招来灾难。对此，哈马斯其实也是无可奈何，如果哈马斯今天放弃暴力，明天就将失去权力，比哈马斯更加暴力的组织就会取而代之。暴民政治就像一个幽灵，牵着巴勒斯坦民族从灾难走向灾难，即使他们真有打败以色列的那天，他们也不会有好日子过，暴民政治的传统决定了他们将开始自相残杀，就像2007年6月哈马斯所进行的加沙大屠杀一样。
- 当然，你不可能去跟巴勒斯坦人说：当初侯赛尼骗你们发起冲突的那些理由，现在已经被证明是谎言，请你们停止暴力行为吧。冲突久了，冲突本身就成了原因，而那些最初的缘起反倒没有人记得，也不那么重要了。
