    • Yesterday was the official date set for the 30th anniversary of the opening up and reform policies. President Hu Jintao said in his eulogy at the Great Hall of the People: "If we don't sway back and forth, relax our efforts or get sidetracked, but firmly push forward the reform and opening up as well as adhere to socialism with Chinese characteristics, then this grand blueprint will definitely materialize." The last of the three warnings, "don't get sidetracked" - buyao zheteng(不要折腾), can be interpreted many different ways, including “don't toss and turn" and "don't do something over and over again (to little effect)". On the People.com forum one called netizen wrote the following post:

    • The video originated from a Brazilian, Marco Fiorito, who describes himself as a "compulsive fetishist".[6] Fiorito originally produced foot fetish videos but soon moved on to coprophagia. The film was produced by MFX-Video, one of several companies owned by Fiorito.[6] Fiorito contends his films are legal in Brazil, but authorities in the United States have branded some of his films as obscene and filed charges against Danilo Croce, a Brazilian lawyer living in Florida, listed as an officer of a company distributing Fiorito's films in the United States.[6] Croce accepted a plea bargain and was sentenced to 3 years of unsupervised probation and forfeiture of $98,000.[6] Fiorito claimed he did not know his films were illegal in the United States and that his films often contained chocolate instead of feces to appease some of his actors who were willing to appear in scat films but not actually eat fecal matter.[6]

    • Past rewards influence how humans (and other animals) make decisions. We've known about that for a long time, said Serences – through day-to-day experience as well as the numerous experiments of economists and cognitive psychologists. Though more and more research is looking into it, little is known about how rewards affect the way the brain processes incoming sensory information, specifically as it relates to vision. Could it be that we see things differently if they have paid off before?

    • It was the region's smallest IPO harvest in recent memory and down from 22 in 2007. But if one is the loneliest number, as the old Three Dog Night song proclaimed, what would zero feel like?
    • But in a healthy economy, the IPO provides capital that helps startups grow their business and hire more employees. The IPO also provides venture capitalists with lucrative financial "exits" that enable them to profit and deliver returns to their long-term investors, typically pension funds, university endowments and wealthy foundations and families. That, in turn, helps venture capitalists to raise new funds to seed more startups and repeat the cycle.
