- 「中聯辦」介入香港選舉根本不是新聞，只不過礙於香港主流社會對「一國兩制」的理解，它從來不會承認罷了。可是在這一次的自由黨風波裏面，卻有一些評論家很莊重地為它辯護。他們認為中央政府透過駐港代表支持親中央的政黨是天公地道，不只不違背「一國兩制」，而且還是光明正大的應有之義。

- 现在言归正传，谈谈这本值得尊敬的书。西方学术界通常对中文学术著作不太关注，然而，这本书却不同。它的首次发行是今年5月，但在书上市前，出版的消息已在西方学者圈中传开了。实际上，我首先是从英文渠道得知此事。此书在香港一上市，西方的好几家大报刊即用严肃书评予以反应。迄今我至少看到三篇书评了，对它评价极高。
- 作者1960年代毕业于清华大学，基础扎实。该书对资料的整理、对数据的比较，非常细致。在长达十几年的研究期间，作者在全国饥荒最严重的几个省，包括西北、西南、华北、华东、东北、华南等地的省区收集了大量资料，并面对面地采访了100多名当事人。他收集的资料多达千万字，仅访谈当事人的记录就厚厚的十多本。因此，书中提供的那些细节，让你看起来非常累，每页上的数据都是大串大串的。
